Artist's  Statement

The Mrs Abernathy Series, "Cherry Blossom Season" and "Mrs Abernathy Waits for the Admiral’s Return I and II”.  Acrylic, Pencil, Pastel, Oil Pastel.  This series is an exploration of the stories and sensory exposure of an 1800’s British Naval wife to the lush textures and colors of India and the Far East after growing up near the cold North Sea.  The sights, smells, sounds and textures of foreign countries.  The overwhelming shapes and colors of the gardens. Raising children alone in new lands  while her husband is at sea.  This is a part of a group of works with perspectives from different family members.
