Emerging; needle felted fiber; 35” x 27”
Findley Lake, NY
I am a storyteller. My artwork reflects personal experience, each a page from the journal of my life, depicted in fiber, photography or paintings. They all reproduce a moment in time stashed in memory and brought to life through my art.
My work is predominantly done with fiber. I approach fabric with a combination of sewing, painting, batik and dyeing. I create original fabric and distress/ change stock fabric. I use bleach to discharge color in fabric. Additional details are added with pastels, colored pencils, printing techniques, and markers.
This work is done in felted fiber. The fibers of alpacas and sheep become my paints. My canvas is a felted wool background. My paintbrush is a barbed needle. I apply the fibers, blending colors in much the same way that painters apply paint to canvas. When the piece is completed the fibers so merge with the wool background that you can see a shadow image on the reverse side
Once completed those moments in my life become permanently affixed in my artwork.
