Out by the Chicken Coop; Beeswax and oil paint on wood panel; 23” x 36.5"
Alfred, NY 14802
“Out by the Chicken Coop” is a painting inspired
both by Alfred’s rural setting and Jansen’s own family. Alfred’s rolling hills have always reminded her of her grandfather’s farm in South Africa and his comfort in mountainous landscapes. After his passing in 2017, Jansen felt it only right to commemorate
him a landscape painting, which she based on the last picture she took of his farm. The wooden panel which she painted onto is recycled from a biltong box she helped her grandfather make as a child on one of his many visits to the USA. (Biltong is a special
type of dried meat popular in South Africa).
About the Artist
